Recently I finished the first season of the television show Lie to Me, starring Tim Roth. In the show Dr. Cal Lightman and his team are contracted by government agencies as well as by private individuals to investigate if someone is being truthful or deceitful. They use their study of the 6 universal facial expressions (happiness, surprise, anger, sadness, fear, and disgust) to tell them how people truly feel about a given subject. I was very intrigued when reading about the same principle in the first chapter of my Psychology textbook. Another subject discussed was the principle of display rules: why someone displays a given emotion and how that differs from culture to culture.
